Elenger expands energy storage

Elenger, the largest privately-owned energy company in the Baltic and Finnish region, is investing €6 million in the development of solar park storage systems in Estonia and Latvia. With this investment, the battery-based storage capacity of Elenger’s solar parks will increase to 35 MWh, enough to supply approximately 5,000 households per day.

According to Margus Kaasik, Chairman of the Management Board of Elenger Grupp, expanding storage capabilities gives both households and businesses the opportunity to use more renewable energy.

“In addition to reducing the risk of power outages and enabling faster recovery, battery-based energy storage also helps lower electricity prices. The system stores energy when it is cheaper or when there is surplus production and feeds it back into the grid when demand and prices are higher, thereby reducing costs for households and businesses,” Kaasik noted.

In September, Elenger opened its first battery-based energy storage system at the Nīca solar park in Latvia and is now starting construction at the Olaine solar park, which began operations in April. Together, the systems at both Latvian sites can store 17 MWh of green energy and deliver 8.5 MW of power to the grid. In Estonia, 18 MWh of storage capacity will be created next year.

Elenger began producing solar energy in 2019 when, in cooperation with a partner company, it built four solar parks in Pärnu, totaling 13,000 panels and a combined capacity of 4.7 MW. Since then, Elenger has established several solar parks across Estonia and two solar power plants in Latvia — in Nīca and Olaine, opened in 2024 and 2025 respectively.

Elenger is the largest privately-owned energy company in the Baltic and Finnish region, operating across the entire energy value chain — from trading and production to end-user delivery. The company serves over 450,000 customers and employs more than 1,000 people.

Elenger supplies Western-sourced natural gas and renewable biomethane to its customers and manages gas networks in Estonia, Latvia, and Poland with a total length of 9,000 km. The company also sells electricity, including green power produced in its solar parks, and is actively engaged in international energy trading. Elenger is owned by the investment company Infortar, which is listed on the Nasdaq Tallinn Baltic Main List.
