Biomethane is a local and renewable car fuel
A truly clean fuel that supports circular economy
The most common symbol for natural gas used as car fuel is CNG – compressed natural gas. However, in Estonia today, the more widely used option is already locally produced renewable fuel biomethane, or green gas, which has significant advantages over petrol and diesel fuel.
- 10x cleaner. The CO₂ emissions of biomethane produced by upgrading methane captured from agricultural waste are nearly 10 times lower than those of fossil liquid fuels. Since the methane is prevented from escaping into the atmosphere, the actual environmental impact of using biomethane is even hundreds of times lower.
- Free from toxic emissions. When biomethane and CNG burn completely, only carbon dioxide and water vapour remain. Petrol combustion, on the other hand, releases also toxic carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, soot, and other fine particles that pose risks to human health.
- Sustainable. While natural gas reserves are finite, biomethane can be produced indefinitely. Estonia already has several biomethane producers, including Elenger’s sister company within the Infortar Group.
- Less strain on the living environment. Thanks to gas pipeline transportation, the burden on roads and railways is reduced, along with noise levels and exhaust emissions.
- Station network all over the country.Elenger’s CNG filling stations are located across Estonia (see map), and other companies are also building their own gas stations.
- Refuelling is simple, fast, clean, and safe. At our stations, compressed gas can be filled both into passenger cars (smaller nozzle) and trucks (larger nozzle).
You can refuel at all Elenger CNG filling stations all over Estonia with the Cloudics mobile application.
Refueling without plastic cards and paper checks is faster, cleaner and more environmentally friendly.
Download the Cloudics app, add your bank and customer card information to it, and you’re done.
To refuel, proceed as follows:
- Open the app
- Select a tanker
- Refuel
- Look at the receipt
Which gas to drive on?
Elenger sells two types of compressed natural gas at its filling stations.
CBM (compressed biomethane, rohegaas) is one hundred percent local renewable fuel, produced from biogegradable waste.
CNG+ (compressed natural gas+, maagaas+) is a mix of imported natural gas and green gas.
The chemical composition and quality of two products are the same and both are suitable for the CNG car.
Both biomethane and natural gas+ are compressed gases, which means that the gas is 200x compressed and at a higher pressure than normal pipe gas.
In addition, there is also LNG (liquefied natural gas), used as a transport fuel primarily by trucks and long-distance buses, as well as ships. Passenger cars powered by LNG are not manufactured.
There are other gaseous fuels, such as LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), but methane-based natural gas and biomethane are the cleanest.
Compressed gases are sold in kilograms.
