Today, Norwegian energy group Equinor delivered part of the gas for the next heating season to Elenger aboard the tanker Arctic Aurora to the Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania. The LNG will be transferred to the floating terminal Independence, from where the gas will move through Lithuanian and Latvian pipelines to the Inčukalns underground gas storage facility in Latvia.

“The arrival of spring and warmer weather means preparation for the next heating season. We will bring most of next year’s gas by ship from Norway and the United States to the Finnish and Baltic region during the spring months, using both the Port of Inkoo in Finland and the Port of Klaipėda in Lithuania,” said Margus Kaasik, Chairman of the Management Board of Elenger Group.

“Gas availability is good and deliveries are proceeding as planned – sufficient volumes of gas are reaching Europe and storage filling has begun everywhere. In addition, we expect that next season we will be able to produce around 15 percent of the gas consumed in Estonia locally at green gas plants,” Kaasik added.

Elenger’s first delivery for the next season arrived from the United States aboard the tanker Marvel Swallow at the Port of Inkoo in Finland at the end of March. The next delivery is scheduled for May to Inkoo. In total, three LNG vessels will arrive in Inkoo and two in Klaipėda during the spring months, with additional deliveries planned for autumn.

Elenger began using the Klaipėda LNG small-scale terminal in Lithuania in 2017. In 2019, a contract was signed with Klaipėdos Nafta, after which LNG purchases and supply to the natural gas network via the Klaipėda floating terminal Independence began.
